The Bedford Companion to Shakespeare
This is a great book! It has loads of interesting information about Shakespeare, his life, his interests, his time, his theatres, his inspirations. It seems an easy read as well; I’m just starting it now and am planning to spend the summer on it, picking it up now and then when I feel the urge. I like that about non-fiction: unlike a novel, you can pick it up and put it down again whenever you feel like it and not have to worry about losing momentum. Plus when I’m reading a really good novel I get so caught up in the story that I have to finish it before my mind will open to anything else. This is on the curriculum for my Shakespeare course this autumn and it will possibly be the first ever textbook that I read cover to cover. Amazing. Why not take a look?
